INSPECTIONS
Marine casualties can occur for a number of reasons. We have expert surveyors that can identify the root cause of a casualty and also make recommendations to avoid future casualties.
Pollution
and Damage to the Environment
Collision Survey
Pollution
and Damage to the Environment
When considering “pollution” in the marine environment, one usually thinks of oil-spill incidents from oil tankers, leakage of marine fuels as a result of a marine incident or from a failure during bunkering operations.
Besides oil-spill incidents and failure of bunkering operations, damage to the environment can also be caused by loss of deck cargo overboard, emission of toxic gases from tankers, spread of soot from exhaust gases, etc.
Collision Survey
With environmental regulations becoming stricter every day, the pressure on ship operators is obvious to avoid these incidents from occurring and to be prepared in case of a failure.
This type of survey is for vessel accidents during voyage, berthing, anchorage, loaded, discharged and maneuvering.
PT. HMS surveyor’s purpose for this survey is to perform a meticulous investigation of the circumstances leading to the damage. He is to determine potential root cause of the damage, extent of the loss and witness vessel repair after the collision.
Our surveyor will boarded the vessel to carry out survey on behalf of our Principal to ascertain the damage sustain by her, then on a without prejudice basis he will have to board the Adverse vessel also to ascertain the damage sustain.

Pre – SIRE / SIRE
Inspection
SIRE stands for Ship Inspection Report Program, which was introduced by the OCIMF ( Oil Companies International Marine Forum) in 1993 as a safety initiative to address concerns about sub-standard shipping. The SIRE Program is a unique Tanker Risk Assessment tool which is of great value to Charterers, Ship Operators, Terminal Operators and Government bodies concerned with ship safety. It consists of a large pool of up-to-date information about Tankers and Barges.
Shipping is a risky business. Today, charterers of ships carrying hazardous cargo need to limit their corporate liability and protect their reputation.
Most responsible charterers exercise due diligence by performing ship vetting taking all reasonable steps to ensure that the ships are being properly operated and will be in a suitable condition to embark on the voyage in safety, and without the risk of damage to the marine environment. Failure to do so could expose a charterer to unlimited corporate risk in the event of a serious incident involving a ship which that company had chartered.
PT. HMS can arrange SIRE inspection in most ports of Indonesia.
PT. HMS is conducted based on the SIRE inspection form and no additional specific form is prepared.

Food and Perishables
Many types of fruit, vegetables and other food are transported by sea. PT. Hydra Marine Surveys employs several specialist commodity experts to investigate any sort of claim or product loss.
Cargoes that need to be transported under controlled temperatures are carried by specialised refrigerated vessels or refrigerated cargo containers. Three types of cargo that dominate the reefer industry are bananas, deciduous fruits, and citrus fruits. Other commodities are meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, dairy products and exotic produce. When looking at the condition after overseas carriage, it is important to determine the nature of damage involved.
The refrigerated cargo container
Advanced techniques control the temperature and atmosphere in the container accurately and consistently, all with the aim of optimising the keeping qualities of the cargo. The basic requirement in carriage of temperature-controlled cargoes is to deliver the goods, as far as possible, in the same condition as that in which they were dispatched. As temperature-sensitive goods deteriorate at a rate that is temperature dependent, temperature maintenance is paramount. The actual temperature required will depend on many factors and may require expert advice.
